GM Crops | Genetics | Biology | FuseSchool
GM stands for genetically modified. So, GM crops are plants grown for food whose genes have been altered using genetic engineering. In some cases, the genes of other organisms have been inserted into the genome of the crop plant to improve it in some way. As the human population increases, there is a higher demand for food, and it is often difficult to grow enough food to provide everyone with a balanced diet. Growing GM crops is a partial solution to this problem because GM crops tend to have higher yields than conventional crops.

Bioengineered foods hit American grocery stores
While at the grocery store have you noticed a new word on some of your food products—bioengineered?
What the heck does that even mean?! Well… that’s exactly why I made this video.
Because as of January 1st of this year, food producers must disclose if their products are bioengineered or not. Which is great if you have any idea what bioengineered actually means.

France checks the scientific validity of shocking GM food study
http://www.euronews.com/ French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault says he is prepared to call for a wider European ban on genetically modified produce following an alarming new study that throws the safety of the food into doubt.
The report claimed that 200 rats fed GM corn produced by US firm Monsanto had suffered tumours as big as ping-pong balls.
Ayrault has ordered that the scientific validity of the study be checked by the country's health watchdog.
So far Monsanto has not responded to the findings.
But scientist Joel Spiroux has called for new rules on GM foods:
"Current regulation tests are conducted over three months, but the really serious diseases, such as the death of rats due to tumors, occur only in the fourth month," said Spiroux.
